Happy New Year
I look forward to this next year- it a time of new beginnings and fresh starts. I'm reminded of how God's mercies are "new every morning" at times like this. I've never been one to make resolutions- mostly because I try to make changes as soon as I see the need for one- but good luck to all of you that have and a great new year filled with God's favor and blessing on you and your family.
Belonging
The Bible is a story of belonging. A People belonging to their Creator and the Creator belonging to His people. As a church we try to help people find his/her niche in our community. We use tools like Home Teams, discipleship courses, post ministry opportunitities, etc. But as a pastor's wife- Where do I fit in?
"God is the stronghold of my life, an ever-present help in times of trouble".
It's comforting to know that someone is holding us so securely-- especially when there is danger all around- or fear- or worry- or insecurities- isn't it? I was recently reminded how strongly God holds on to us and it encouraged me through a very difficult time. Psalms 23 says that the "Lord is my Shepherd... He makes me lie down in green pastures." My Lord and my Shepherd have guided me to a quiet and calm place without any harm, and now I am at rest.
One thing that I struggle with is the thought of God as my protector. I know that he is omnipotent, created the world, things move at his command, mountains into the sea, rear guard and all that. The thought that I am not protecting myself and letting someone else do scares me. But God is Jehovah Nissi (Our Banner) and will fight/protect/ guard all of us.
I have committed to my daily devotions a time of focusing/memorizing scriptures that specifically refer to God as my Shield. It has really helped. It gives me something to think about when the old situation starts coming up and I start getting defensive-- GOD WILL PROTECT ME- and I WILL ABIDE IN THE SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY.
